Barcelona heavyweight shortens recovery time, will train at higher intensity this week

Ronald Araujo’s injury in July on international duty and subsequent long-term absence was considered a huge blow for FC Barcelona before the season started.

However, in Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez, manager Hansi Flick has found a defensive partnership that is excelling and has played a key role in the team’s brilliant start to the campaign, ensuring Araujo has not been missed.

Despite that, the return of a player of Araujo’s calibre is eagerly awaited and it turns out that his comeback might not be much farther away.

Araujo shortens recovery period

Indeed, according to journalist Santi Ovalle, Araujo is inching closer and closer to a comeback, with the defender shortening his recovery timeline by a significant margin.

The Uruguayan’s return is now targeted for November, significantly ahead of the initial December-January estimate that was predicted after he underwent surgery.

As per the report, Araujo is “physically fit as a rocket” and consequently, this week he will resume “serious” field training to expedite his recovery.

While recent days have seen him focus on rehabilitation with lighter workloads, the defender will begin intensive training this week.

This is seen as a big step in the right direction as far as Araujo’s return from injury is concerned, with the Celta Vigo clash right after next month’s international break being pencilled in as a potential date for his comeback.

As mentioned earlier, though, Cubarsi and Martinez have firmly established themselves as the starting centre-back pair for Barcelona this season.

As such, Araujo will find it complicated to walk right back into the starting XI once he comes back, and may find himself playing a peripheral role at least for some time.
