Barcelona leadership united on signing 24-year-old Bundesliga talent but lack of funds complicates plans

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco are both on the lookout for a new full-back, after being impressed by Denzel Dumfries’ strong display in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg.

In fact, according to SPORT, Flick believes that someone similar to Dumfries, who is fast, strong, and attack-minded, could boost Barcelona’s offensive firepower next season.

This is now seen as a priority area for improvement, although changes to the squad will be minimal.

Flick is aware that the team already has depth in most areas, so any incoming player must truly raise the level.

Barcelona are not planning a major overhaul in the summer. Instead, they want to bring in one or two players who can make a real difference, and right-back is the key focus.

Frimpong the ideal pick, but financial limits remain

The name at the top of the wish list is Jeremie Frimpong. Deco and Flick both view the Bayer Leverkusen full-back as the ideal fit. He offers strength, speed, and a constant attacking threat from the flanks.

But there is one big problem: money. Barcelona’s tight financial situation makes a move for Frimpong very difficult right now. Frimpong is aware of Barcelona’s interest, but there have been no official talks or offers so far.

If the club cannot find a right-back who is clearly better than what they already have, Flick is ready to continue relying on the club’s youth system, La Masia.

There are other options too

Players like Dodo from Fiorentina and Vanderson from Monaco are also being monitored, but only if they are available at a reasonable fee. No big-money moves are expected.

Another name on the list is Spain’s Marc Pubill, but even he is seen more as a long-term project than a guaranteed starter.

Flick and Deco now want to end the season on a high before turning their full attention to the summer market. There won’t be too many changes — just smart, targeted moves that strengthen what is already working.
